"Be a Man, Say NO To Dowry"
I have here My friend Nad Zak , who would like to share his opinion on a topic which is one of the biggest menaces of the Indian Society, "The Dowry System"
Though we live in hi-tech
world and talk about modernism, democracy, but one question always hits me up,
have we changed our conservative mentality or we still trying to pretend to be
modern??
Our goal is to look into ourselves
and give the answer to ourselves that, there are some of the stained systems in our country which are the
black spots in our image.
An example of this feeling of impotence
is demonstrated by our culture, the problem of dowry is more. Day by day it is
increasing. This is for discussion. Are there any measures to control the same?
If a bride’s family fails to pay the amount of dowry demanded
by the prospective groom’s family, the bride will be cruelly treated by the
in-laws, and in many cases will be burnt to death. There are many measures
through which we could stop this dowry system. The person who is demanding for
money or who do harassment should be kept behind the bars, strict action should
be taken only then this dowry system can be reduced. Marriage is one of the
most inviolable and holy ceremonies in our society. But the horror of the dowry
system has made this ceremony one of the feared institutions…!
In ancient Indian society there was no
question of the dowry in marriages. It was considered to be a sin. The
bride-groom was willingly presented with some useful gifts which were not
demanded at all..
But the whole situation has altered now
nobody bothers to approach a girl's parents for her marriage. The parents of
the girl desperately move in search of a suitable groom for her now. They
persuade the groom's parents and show them the temptation of money and dowry.
Through these unfair means they get the permission of the groom's parents for
his marriage.
Even modern, well-educated families
start saving up money for their daughter’s dowry as soon as she is born, so
what one can expect from the uneducated masses whose only form of education is
tradition.
In my view, it is mainly because of lack
of awareness that women have been turned into a saleable commodity. Most of the
women are not educated enough to defy the pre-established social norms. Even
those who are educated are continuing this ugly tradition in the name of social
prestige.
What if I am father of a girl and can’t
give dowry so it means my daughter won’t get married. Or if she get married after
putting all my efforts then should I wait for her burned body or news that she
committed suicide!!!!
It is such a crap thing to talk or think
even!
If we are trying to change the picture of
India, we have to kill this “Monster System” and show the unity towards those
who takes and gives dowry, and we should start from “I” (if I don’t want to give dowry for my sister or daughter then,
I should not take it as well)

This is really so bad!! Hw much a society expects frm a girl's family. She is as such emotional abt so many things, being raised and brought up in such a well-y way and that is also not enough for the people. People stop being so insensitive to the girl and to her families also.
